About the Artist
Karen Jacobs hails from Sarasota, Florida and is an MFA graduate of Florida State University. Living abroad for more than 30 years as the wife of a US naval engineer, Karen’s paintings are collected as far away as Japan, Canada and Italy. Her work is included in the collections of Saks fifth avenue, The Birmingham Museum of Art and the Consulate general for Italy in New Orleans as well as featured In movies and on television.
The artist’s Abstract paintings range from soft to linear and geometric each developed during extensive exploration. Past experiences enhance Karen’s current work, with an ongoing interest in remnants and patterns, rich patinas of aged surfaces and the many mysteries of found juxtapositions. Each of her pieces offers layers of thick and thin color washed over a textured surface. Traces are left by assorted mark makers, lines are straight, curved or gestural, surfaces are wiped, dripped and spattered; all adding to an eventual sense of accumulation and the essence of time.
